Google is planning on soon officially launching its new operation system, Android L which is currently only available as a developer preview for a limited amount of devices. The final version of Android L will become available on a wide variety of flagship smartphones the question is: Will my Device get Android L?
Manufacturers are not going to make L available on all of the different models, but mainly to the flagship devices that have launched during the last year or so. Lets take a look at what devices will get Android L sorted by manufacturer:
HTC
In a blog post HTC has talked about their commitment to Android and their loyal customers, by bringing them the latest and greatest software updates available saying it is one of the “advantages of using a HTC” device also confirming that within 90 days of launch both the HTC One M7 and HTC One M8 will get Android L it is yet unknown if any other HTC devices will get the update.
Nexus
Of Course, Google’s own line up of devices will be the first to receive the update but it looks like its most popular smartphone the Nexus 4 will not get Android L (Learn how to install the Developer Preview on the Nexus 4 here) while users that have the newer Nexus 5 will be one of the first to be able to download Android L. As far as Tablets go, the Nexus 7 2013 and the LG G Pad Google Play will both get the update. Read more about the Nexus 6
Motorola
Motorola is also working hard on making Android L available on its new devices. The company has confirmed that the Moto E will not get the update but the Moto X will (source). It is yet unknown if the Moto G will get the update, but there is solid leaked evidence pointing to the fact that it will get the update (Source)
Sony
Sony has a history of working hard on new updates but usually running into issues leaving a lot of devices without an update. You can expect to upgrade to Android L if you own a Xperia Z1, Xperia Z2 or Xperia Z3. All other devices will not get the upgrade.
Samsung
Samsung might be the manufacturer most people are waiting for to launch Android L. There is plenty of solid proof that Samsung will launch Android L for the Galaxy S5 (source) and the Galaxy Note 3. It has been rumored that the Galaxy S4 will also get the update but this hasn’t been confirmed, according to the rumors it will get L “shortly after” it becomes available on the S5.
LG
If your own a LG smartphone there is a huge chance you won’t get the Android L update as it will only become available on the LG G3. The LG G Flex and Optimus Pro 2 will not get the update at all but the G2 is rumored to get the update sometime during 2015 (source).
OnePlus
Running Cyanogenmod 11S the OnePlus team has fully confirmed the fact that its only smartphone the OnePlus One will get the Android L update within three months of the official release of Android L, it will most likely also include the Cyanogenmod 12 update. Oppo
Oppo hasn’t been so clear about a possible Android L update for its Find 7 and Find 5 as OnePlus. It appears that the Find 5 will definitely not get the L update (source) but we could see the Find 7 receive the update sometime 2015, this hasn’t officially been confirmed.
