According to new a new report from Korean Herald, Samsung is working hard on bringing out a 3G enabled version of its smartwatch the Gear 2 that will be called the “Samsung Gear solo”. Currently the latest smartwatches from Samsung are meant to be used as a companion to your Samsung smartphone and not used as an independent device, the Gear Solo might change this as the smartwatch will incorporate its own USIM module adding support for 3G which allows it to receive and answer calls without the need of a smartphone, making it much more independent.
The device is currently planned to only become available in Korea through SDK Telecom but if it proves to be successful it might eventually launch in North America and Europe. As of now we do not have an official release date for the device.
At MWC 2014 Samsung introduced its new line up of Smartwatches adding the Gear 2 running on Tizen and a cheaper version called the Gear 2 Neo.
