The pirate bay co-founder Peter Sunde (@Brokep) has launched Heml.is a private messaging app. Heml.is stands for “secret” in swedish, the app is completely encrypted using PGP and XMPP technology, so government and ISP’s can’t see anything you are texting.,
The app is currently trying to get funded and is at $27.000 of the $100.000 it needs, once launched it will be available for free and will currently only be released on Android and iOS.
The app is different from services such as Whatsapp and iMessage is that “Our focus is your privacy so we are building everything from software to company structure to protect that. The others are focused on maximising profit.”
Update: Heml.is got 150% funded, more news can be expected soon.
