Google has recently released Android 5.1.1 (LMY48B and LMY47V) for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 4. It has just been several days after the release but thanks to Chainfire’s SuperSU root package you can now Root Android 5.1.1. The guide bellow will teach you:

- Root Nexus 4 running Android 5.1.1 LMY47V
- Root Nexus 5 running Android 5.1.1 LMY48B
- Install CWM Recovery
Before Rooting Android 5.1.1 on the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5
- Charge your device to at least 80% battery life
- Make sure to perform a full system backup of all your data. Make sure to check out our in-depth guides on how to perform a Nandroid backup or a backup Android to the cloud
- Rooting your device will remove the phone’s warranty.
- Enable USB Debugging on the phone. This can be done by to navigating to Settings > About phone and Tap on Build Number several times until a message appears saying ‘You are now a Developer.
How to Root Android 5.1.1 Lollipop – Nexus 4
- Download Android SDK
- Download Fastboot (For Windows or Mac)
- Download Super SU V2.46 for Nexus 4
- Connect your Nexus 4 to your PC
- Copy and Paste the SuperSU-v2.46.zip downloaded file into your device’s internal memory
- Once done, turn your device off
- Download CWM 6.0.4.7 for the Nexus 4
- save it to your android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory (on your PC or Mac)
- Boot into Fastboot/Bootloader mode
- Navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your PC or Mac and open Command Prompt
- type the following command: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.7-mako.img
- Choose “Recovery” from the fastboot menu on your Nexus 4
- In ClockworkMod recovery, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card”
- Choose the SuperSU-v2.45.zip file
- Follow the on screen instructions
- Reboot your device
How to Root Android 5.1.1 Lollipop – Nexus 5
- Download Android SDK
- Download Fastboot (For Windows or Mac)
- Download Super SU V2.46 for Nexus 5
- Connect your Nexus 4 to your PC
- Copy and Paste the SuperSU-v2.46.zip downloaded file into your device’s internal memory
- Once done, turn your device off
- Download Download CWM 6.0.4.5 for the Nexus 5
- save it to your android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory (on your PC or Mac)
- Boot into Fastboot/Bootloader mode
- Navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your PC or Mac and open Command Prompt
- type the following command: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-hammerhead.img
- Choose “Recovery” from the fastboot menu on your Nexus 5
- In ClockworkMod recovery, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card”
- Choose the SuperSU-v2.45.zip file
- Follow the on screen instructions
- Reboot your device
