Apple acquires popular Maps App called Embark, a public transit map app Jessica Lessin, former Wall Street Journal journalist reports. Apple has also recently acquired the city navigation app HopStop. Embark is a small startup founded by David Hodge in 2011 and is located in Silicon Valley, the app helps over 500.000 daily users navigate better through public traffic. The App is available on Android and iOS but has since the acquisition been removed from the Play Store. A Apple spokesman confirmed the acquisition in a statement to Jessica Lessin
“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
all though it didn’t have a response on why they removed the App from Google’s Play store. It is rumored that Apple has acquired the App in order to integrate a feature into iMaps that will tell you the time left before a train or metro arrives at a station.
It is estimated that Apple has paid over $35 million dollars for Embark.
